Monday ~ The Best Part of My Weekend Was Last Night

Yesterday was a lovely day. A few of my siblings surprised me by joining me at my church for the service, which was so much fun. I love my family.

After church, I went home and spent a leisurely late morning and afternoon making lunch, doing some computer work, laying out in the sun, reading my current read and watching some MacGyver

Around dinner time, I went home to celebrate Mother's Day with my family.

We did simple this year. But then, haha...don't we always? We're just simple people, really.

We ate homemade pizza, homemade cheesecake and berry pies that Seth had tucked away in the fridge. We sat at the picnic table that my grandfather built, elbow to elbow, talking about everything from summer plans to tarantula migrations.

Yes. Our dinner conversations vary drastically in topic. But don't try and tell me that yours doesn't, too. *grin*

{ my mom and my sister - two beautiful people }

{ my dad and mom }

{ my mom/best friend/role model and me }

{ Mr. Wine Warehouse Manager himself (aka Seth) }

{ getting my cat fix for the week }

{ the almond orchards were being watered, hence the reflective water between the trees }

After we finished eating, we went on a family walk. It started out as just me, Katheryn and Karis. Then Stuart came, then Seth, then Scott. And then Mom and Dad joined us.

It really was more like a herd going on a walk. But that's the best kind!

Living in almond orchard country, we have miles of dirt roads that parcel off the orchards all around the house. And that's where we take our walks, with the cool orchards all around, the faint smells of summer fertilizers in the air and the dirt from the roads tanning our feet.

So, that's how I spent Mother's Day!

I love my mom.
I love my family.
I love my life.

  1. I love that you + your family go on walks together! That's something that my family and I do A LOT and I used to be embarrassed that we would walk in a herd, but it's also just a sign of how close-knit we are. Looks like a wonderful Sunday, friend!

    1. I love it, too! Although it's been years actually since we've been on an all-family walk! The herd-complex is one I often feel, like when all of us kids decide to go grocery shopping with mom "just because" or whatever...we really do look like a mob advancing. But it's exactly as you say - it shows how close we are and how much we really love each other. :)

  2. Sounds a lot like our Mothers day! Homemade goodies with the family and then a walk with the herd, or clan as we were dubbed at our church in Oregon! =)

  5. What a beauteous Mother's Day you all had! I am insanely jealous of where you live--have I mentioned that before? I've never even seen an almond tree, much less an orchard!

  7. I loved that little bit about our table conversation...summer plans and tarantula migrations! :) Scott and Stuart walked in the room about that time so I read it to them. You sure have a funny way of putting things, Kel!

    1. Haha, thanks, Angela! Truth be, I guess if I hadn't grown up in almond country, I might not have known anything about almonds and how they grow either! But yes, almonds grow on trees and the trees come in orchard shapes. :)
