Friday ~ My First Picnic of Twenty-Thirteen

One of my simple plans for this spring/summer season is to soak in the season by going on picnics. Picnics with family, picnics with friends, and even picnics all by myself. There's something truly delightful about a checkered blanket and a goodie-filled basket.
Today after work, I embarked on my first picnic! I packed myself a chicken sandwich, a bowl of olives, some natural cheetos and some iced water. And, to crown it all, one of my blue and white china plates.

With basket and checkered cloth in hand, I walked a ways out into the orchards surrounding our house, which have now lost their blossoms and are filling out with fresh new leaves.

I ate my food, soaked in the evening and read my book.

It was simple. It was quiet. It was a fun way to spend the dinner hour.
Try it. You may like picnics, too!

  1. Sounds very lovely. :)

But OH OH OH OH!! You're reading Scarlet? I really want to get to that one soon. I loved Cinder. So what's your thoughts so far? Or have you finished it already? You did state that you read fast. ;)

    1. Kara! I finished Scarlet tonight and I have to confess that I LOVED it! It's not my usual genre of fiction (although I have a very wide appreciation of different literary genres), but Mellisa Meyers is such a fantatic writer! She has such a talent for story telling and actually describing things, especially action and "cyber" stuff, in such a way that you can easily visualize it in your head. The characters are very endearing - they're tough, they're brave, yet insecure in many ways. I'm really impressed with this author and I'm glad that I took a stab at this book series, because it's becoming a favorite! I can't wait until Cress comes out next year! I actually think that I liked Scarlet even better than I liked Cinder. I garantee that you will love this one! Although I will say...it does get a good portion more violent. But not over the top. Let me know your thoughts once you read it!

  3. It's been years & years since I have actually gone on a picnic, and I intend to this spring (it's still way to cold here now). I mean, I have eaten on a bench in the park, but I haven`t actually packed a blanket & a basket, which is what makes it so cute & fun :-)

  4. Aaah! Taking walks alone and being among trees are some of my favorite things. We're having warm weather today but we've still got lots of cold days left here until Spring arrives. I'm so glad you have a quiet place like that to go to :)

  8. Angela, yay for natural cheetos! They are a favorite in our house, can't get enough of them! Definitly grab a bag and go take a solo picnic! It's quite relaxing and enjoyable!

Jess, a thousand thanks for visiting my blog! I am so blessed that you stopped by and commented! Yes, most people are still in cold weather, but I confess to thoroughly enjoying wearing shorts and flip-flops again! Definitely get out there once it turns spring and go on a cute picnic! I really think making it cute is imperative! :)

Brea, well...if you want some warmer weather...you know where to come find it!! :)

Rissi, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Scarlet! I wouldn't have thought that I'd enjoy this series so much, but frankly...I am! Can't wait until Book #3 comes out next year!

Katysue, my picnic was so nice and I heavily anticipate many more for the coming months! It was so...old-fashiony and relaxing!

Kristyn, hey, lady! Thanks for coming by the blog and commenting! I've not been on many picnics in my life, actually, and that's what sorta inspired me to actually get out and do it some this year! It's such a great way to get away from busy, relax and just soak in beauty and simplicity! :)

  9. I've never gone on a picnic by myself but I love that idea. It seems like the perfect way to enjoy God's creation and enjoy some peace and quiet, too! Now if only the grass in my backyard wasn't wer from the rain! :)

    p.s. You are so cute!

p.p.s. Those cheetos are soooo addicting.

    1. Ah, Kiki! You're so generous with your compliments! And you should go on a picnic whenever your grass dries! I make sure you eat off a glass plate - it makes it that much more classy! ;) I hadn't had those cheetos in awhile...but I'm thinking another bag (for my family to share...*cough cough*) might be in my near future! :D

    1. Laura, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, gral! I know, right? It's that china plate that gives it that flare!! I'm glad I thought to bring it! I had to go unpack it from my big box of china. I have a thing for blue and white china! I bought that set at an antique store last year. Love it!
