................................................................................
I think I'm officially an adult now. I have my own Costco card.
As much as I love the true vintage look...I refuse to decorate my work-in-progress room in the overly-popular "vintage" and "shabby chic" style. That style started out as cute and whimsical. Now it's just over-used and way over-rated. In a few years, everyone is going to have houses full of no-longer-cool pointless decorative nick-nacks (ratty suitcases, anyone?) and their furniture will just look "shabby." Without the chic. Just my humble opinion...
The true way to eat a s'more is to use a Reese's Cup instead of a chocolate bar. You will never be the same. Wounded or not, my car is still one of my best friends.
I love hanging out with my family around the camp fire on Sunday evening. Some of my best summer memories are of those frequent times spent roasting s'mores or "biscui-bobs" over the fire while we all talk about everything under the sun.
I spent the evening with my family last night. And when it was time to leave, all I wanted to do was just spend the night in my "old room" with my sisters, with the country night noises coming in the window and the sound and smells of the water cooler breezing through the house.
I'm all caught up on Once Upon a Time. And I can't believe they did that to that person.
I was challenged by my pastor's sermon yesterday: "If the bible says do it, I just do it" - the words spoken by a brand new Christian. How often does that characterize me? Not very often. I either question it, rationalize it or find a way to make it "okay." But God's not a God of half-ways or compromises and He doesn't settle for "okay." He's a full-blown, hard-core only-what-He-says-is-right-and-true kind of God. And I need to be that kind of Christian.
................................................................................
That's it for today, folks!
Happy Monday!
:-P at it's just going to be shabby and good thought about your pastor's sermon
ReplyDeleteWell, it's true! :D Remember the fad several years ago for the "brown walls, black iron accents and coffee themed paintings?" And then think on how that is SO out right now...There is an art to timeless decorating...but it can be quite hard to not be influenced by something that's just a fad. Especially when the idea is a cute one! ;)
DeleteAs always... Kellie, this is a wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteThat last one... so true! Usually, we do want to find a way "around" something that we think is too hard or asks us to step outside a circle of comfort. Hopefully we're all in a learning process of this together.
Ah, come on. For those of us who await the DVD sets, how could you keep us hanging about 'Once' like that!? ;)
Amen, Rissi! I feel especially challenged in my music selection. I wasn't listening to bad music, but I've definitely been allowing some content into my music that was just "okay" and in some cases, truly an opposite to what the Lord would probably call "best." So, I need to be more willing to toggle my radio dial more often when a song comes on the country station that really just doesn't match up with "best." Not convicted against secular music, just in some of the minor "allowances" that I've been making. Just because I didn't want to make the effort to be more true in my walk with Christ.
DeleteAnd oh man...I'm so sorry!! BUT...the show ends like next week(?), so hopefully it will be released in dvd soon...so you can know what that is. ;)
Oooooohhhhhh! Maybe I should try Reese's s'mores! I don't like Hershey bars. That kind of ruins the whole s'more deal. But with Reese's... :)
ReplyDeleteThen you really must try the Reese's version! It really takes it to a whole new level!! I could never go back to the boring Hershey variety after having once tried the Reese's. :)
Deletei will totally feel like an adult when i have a costco card.
ReplyDeletei'm a new follower.
Welcome, Aimy!! So glad that you are here! Isn't Costco amazing?? I love it. :)
DeleteCongratulations on being an adult! No longer do I have the advantage over you of the Costco card. :)Maybe we can meet there sometime and go shopping.
ReplyDeleteOf course! Maybe around dinner time. At the food court. ;)
DeleteHaha. Your opinion of shabby chic is spot on. I love vintage (and will always incorporate that into my decor somehow... at the very least with my stacks of old books), but there comes a point at which having too much junk laying around looks like, well, too much junk. :D It's kind of like fashion. I've asked my mom over and over why on earth she succumbed to the 80s look, because I really don't know how anyone could fall for that. But somehow it just became popular and everyone jumped on the fashion train to ruin (and stacks of hilarious pictures). It's ridiculous how easy it is to fall in love with trends and then majorly overdo them.
ReplyDeleteI watched the most recent episode of Once Upon A Time this morning and, yeah... wow. I don't know how they'll be able to wrap this season up to my satisfaction with just one more episode!
For sure, Taylor! I think shabby chic started out as really, really cute...but when EVERYONE is doing it and going bats over it...it loses it's true beauty in the trend!
DeleteI still have to watch this past weekends episode and now I'm REALLY curious! Already my thoughts are like yours....how will they wrap it up??
Oh my goshhhhh I have been craving smores for a long time now! I need some!! Also, what is a biscui-bob. I have a feeling it's life changing. I am 3 episodes behind in OUAT :) and I can't wait to catch up!
ReplyDeleteHehe, maybe I should have explained what a "biscui-bob" is! It's an invention of my family's. Biscui-bobs are refrigerator crescent doughs "blobs" wrapped around a stick and cooked over the fire. After it's cooked, you can either dip it in glaze or in butter and cinnamon sugar. Quite delish and a lot of fun!
DeleteMmm, smores, the rain needs to stop so we can have a bonfire and try your fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteYep, having a Costco card makes you an official adult, even more then driving and voting does!
Akk, my family is like 5 episodes behind on Once Upon a Time, we need to catch up, I can only avoid spoilers for so long!
You need to get caught up, Katysue! I've been lolly-gagging behind the entire season, but since I moved and got wireless internet...I've been able to get all caught up. Of course, now that it's ending. :(
DeleteReese's inside of a s'more = AMAZING. S'mores are pretty much my all time favorite ever (besides Jesus, obviously).
ReplyDeleteAnd your last paragraph encouraged me SO much. The Lord is a one-way kind of living and I so often forget that and try to make excuses. All I truly want is to live 100% for Him, His way, and to also be "that kind of Christian" Amen, girl!
Amen, Julie! And for the record, you encourage me ALL the time with your honest sharing about your faith journey!
DeleteReese's in a smore? AH! Must try, soon. I've always loved using Symphony bars in mine!
ReplyDeleteHey, Mrs. Pedersen! :) Thanks for commenting! I've never tried a Symphony bar, but I might just need to do that! :D
DeleteI will overlook your shabby comment...hehehe. My mom was doing it before it was ever even in, so I'm not too worried. :-P
ReplyDeleteSO...is there a way to catch up on season 2? Just finished season one and I'm dyyyyyyying............
Alexandra, thank you for not judging me. *wink* I LOVE that your mom was using the style BEFORE it became popular, that's when it's TOTALLY the right time to do it! To do it just because it's the THING to do? Not so much. And it really is such an adorable decorating style, I'm sure your house is fabulous!
DeleteI have Hulu Plus, so I'm able to watch any Episode of S2. You can sign up with Hulu Plus for one month (it's just $7.99 a month and it's like Netflix, you can end it anytime). So, that's probably your best way to watch it, unless you wanted to wait until it's released on dvd. You should! I personally loved S1 best, but S2 is fabulous, as well! :D
Love this!! Um yeah, Reeses s'mores are the BEST!
ReplyDeleteAren't they, Emily? Gourmet s'mores. :)
DeleteEver tried s'mores in a microwave? don't...they blow up! (talking from experience)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, I used to put marshmallow's in the microwave and watch them get HUGE, but I always stopped it before the burst. :)
DeleteWell me and my cousins, being young and silly, did not have such common sense...:)
DeleteBut hey, now you have a good "life experience" under your belt. ;)
DeleteAND lots of marshmallow to clean out of the microwave...
