Tuesday ~ Eclecticisms of What's Current Around Here

{ a picture taken at the park were we played like wild women, before Karis left for the summer }

I love French café music (think Pixar’s Ratatouille). It’s my go-to happy music, it’s so relaxing, so cheerful and I fully plan on playing it as background music at my reception should I ever actually get married. Go sample all the songs here (no, really, please do!) and I defy you not to smile.

I did my first Sunday School lesson last week and it went just swimmingly. I'm really excited about this lesson material my church is using, it's not the typical Sunday School fluff (which I'd have refused to teach!). It's hard core lessons and theology. Good stuff.

A confession: I ate an entire half-gallon of Chocolate Moose Tracks ice cream this past weekend. Yes, mom. I know.

I have a new favorite show. And in revealing the title I may lose some cool points, but I've gotten hooked on BBC's sci-fi-ish Primeval. Hooked as in...I watched the first three seasons in two days, taking a brief break somewhere in there to sleep a few hours and go to church. What can I say, it's the way I roll. And now every time I hear a strange noise in my house I half expect it to be an ancient creature that's come into my house through a rift in time and I have only seconds to live.

Speaking of ancient creatures, Happy 20th Anniversary to Jurassic Park, the ground-breaking movie that left us gaping in awe and paralyzed with terror, making the industrial kitchen one of the most terrifying places on earth.

With siblings Scott and Karis gone for the summer, those of us “left behind” have been coming up with little adventures to make our summer a little more exciting, since it’s sad without them. So, I’m taking off work on Friday to take Stuart (the one who bears most of the brunt of them being gone) to a certain candy factory. There will be pictures of sugary goodness to come.

My dad is building me my table/desk for my room! It's going to be amazing and that will be one step closer to my room actually being done. I can't wait.

And for the record...my hair is definitely up in a messy bun today. I am undefeated.

    1. Yes, it's pretty much my favorite, although it's hard to pick a favorite ice cream, since I love them all. :)

  2. Yummy, ice cream! Gotta love all that delicious creaminess. Breyer's is my fave.

Victory to Kellie - knew you wouldn't be defeated and still rock that messy bun. ;)

    1. I typically buy Sunnyside ice cream, probably because it has the largest selection at our local grocery store and it's the cheapest of the "good" ice cream. :)

Considering that messy buns are what I do EVERY day, I couldn't be defeated for long without going crazy. ;)

  3. Yummmmmmmm. That ice cream is so good, I don't even blame you. I have been known to finish a half gallon of chocolate peanut butter ice cream all alone... and I eat it for breakfast frequently.

  4. I ate a whole half gallon of Sweet and Salty Caramel Pecan icecream last week while dog sitting. I don't think I want any ice cream for awhile....and that's saying something, 'cuz I LOVE ice cream and it was really good.

I'll have to check out that show, I've been looking for a new show to watch!
Uck, okay, now I feel really old, Jurassic Park really came out 20 years ago??????

  7. First off, I LOVE that picture of you and your sisters! You are all beautiful.
Yay for teaching kids again! Although I wish I was doing it with you too......
And I think it's so sweet how ya'll are looking out for Stuart, it's so sweet :)
I can't wait to see the results of what your dad builds!
And I want ice cream now...thanks.

    1. Ah, thanks. It's one of my favorites of us girls. I love my sisters sooo much. :)
I wish you were doing it with me, too!! Ah to relive the good ol' days again!
Hehe, yes, although the struggle in looking out for Stu is to NOT baby him in the process. He's the baby of the family and it's easy to treat him like a little boy when he's 13 and practically taller than me and definitely a much deeper voice. :)
And I'm hoping my desk might even be ready right now! Can't wait to get it!
You come on over and I'll go buy another carton of ice cream and we'll forgo the use of bowls. :D

  8. Sunday school classes - fluff = awesome! The church we went to when I was younger had the read-a-story-then-color-a-picture set up (moralistic, storytelling generalities). Thankfully my parents didn't count on Sunday school as the place for us to get our theology, otherwise who knows how I would have turned out. ;-) What curriculum are you using?

Your sibs are leaving you for the summer?! Arrrggg. My brother is leaving this fall to go to welding school (several states away...), and we probably won't see him 'til he graduates next May. Soooo, I feel for you! I don't think most people understand how sad it is to be away from your siblings when you've been around them pretty much 24/7 your entire life (and *whispers* you actually like hanging out with them and they are, in fact, your best friends... totally not the norm, is it?!).

    1. Yah, if they'd handed me a fluffy SS curriculum, I definitely would have totally re-vamped the whole program. :) I'm not sure of the actual name of the curriculum publisher is, but this year's lesson plan is called "The ABC's of God," which does exactly what it sounds like it does - goes through the ABC's giving each letter a characteristic of God. And some of them are really hefty!

Just two of my siblings are gone - there's six of us "left" after the oldest two got married. We are the Remnant. ;) Katheryn (28) me (26) Seth (21) Scott (18) Karis (16) Stuart (13), so just Scott and Karis are gone. But you know how it is...just ONE of them being gone changes EVERYTHING and it's TWO of them gone, so it's just extra sad and echo-y at home. I totally agree with you, Taylor!! Truly, truly, my siblings are my best friends. If I had to take ONE thing with me while being trapped on a desert island...I totally choose my FAMILY (hey, we are as one! ;)) Plus between my three brothers who are GENIUS inventors, they'd totally get us off that island in no time anyway. ;) And no, sadly, it's NOT the norm. Although it's my normal and I would NEVER want to ever change it. :)

  9. Yeah, Kellie! You stay undefeated girl! ;D As for Primeval? I haven't watched a whole season but have seen a few episodes here and there. What I saw, I loved! I really like the girl computer whiz from the last couple seasons, forget her name now. But she's cute! ;) And actually I rather like Connor as well. I do enjoy that it has such great bits of humor among all the ancient creatures creating havoc.

    1. Yay! At least someone else who's watched Primeval! I'd never heard anybody mention it before, not even the die-hard BBCers. But I'm glad I found it, although I get quizzical looks from people when I say I'm totally hooked on a show about dinosaurs coming through time rifts. :D Oh, girl, you've definitely got to start from the beginning and just disregard Connor's horrendous hair! The first season truly was the best season, although 2 & 3 were also fabulous. I'm still trying to get into Season 4, since there's been a lot of changes in the set and cast. But it's growing on, as is the computer wiz girl, who I didn't like at first because she was taking Connor's (*cough cough* my favorite guy character in the show) place at the computer. Anyways, I'll stop now. ;)

    2. I stumbled on it when looking for other stuff that the actor who plays Connor was in. I'd seen him in the mini series Alice and wanted more! ;D And you are so right, I should definitely get around to watching the whole thing someday soon. I remember reading some articles online about the cast changes and how people felt about it. I know it was a pretty big deal at the time. And I can certainly understand not wanting to have less of a favorite character! Totally understand! ;)

I actually couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what you had written as I've never heard anyone else mention it either. Glad to know I'm not the only fan now! (Really. I mean that. It's always kind of weird to be into a show that nobody you know enjoys or knows anything about. So chat away to me if you ever desire to! I won't mind.)

    3. HAHAHAHAHA....oh, Kara, that made me give out a happy laugh, because that's exactly how I started watching Primeval, too!! I'd seen previews for it on my Doctor Who dvd's months and months ago but had completely forgotten all about it. I watched Alice last week and frankly, was madly in love with Hatter by the end (I confess I watched and re-watched the kiss at the end several times *guilty blush*) and really wanted to see more of his character, too. And Netflix's recommendation after watching Alice was Primeval and I saw that Andrew-Lee Potts was one of the characters...so I instantly hit play...and the rest is history. :)

I just finished Season 4 last night and by now, I'm fully acclimated to the new ARC team and am growing quite fond of them. Only one more season to go!! I hope the show has a full ending, not like they just didn't ever make another season, so you're left sort of hanging as to what ever happened. I guess I'll find out tomorrow night when I marathon through Season 5. ;)

  10. I've been teaching Sunday school for 8 years now....and your right....the last 4 years we've been using a great curriculum. Its hard to bring down for the 5-8 year olds but these kids will know more than some Pastors!!

I teach about baptism, the universal church, pastors& deacons, the new nature, church membership....everything! :) It takes 3 years to go through the entire curriculum!

    1. Oh, girl, don't even get me started on Primeval and Conner. My main show right now. Have you seen Alice?

      Delete
    2. Gracious! Now don't YOU get me started on Alice. I don't care how cheesy it is, I adore that mini series. I might be biased though because I'm a bit of a Wonderland fanatic in any form or fashion. (But then it might have helped that Andrew-Lee Potts played Hatter which happens to be one of my favorite fictional characters, also in any form or fashion.)

    3. Oh good, a fellow Alice lover! I, too, absolutely love that mini-series, it had me hooked right from the start and definitely in love with Hatter. I've decided that next I get a fluffy, crazy-haired cat, I shall immediately name it Hatter. ;) It was his delicious performance in Alice and the Netflix recommendation that "if you liked this, you might like this" and seeing his name underneath, that got me into Primeval. I which I was acutely chagrined to see him in long hair in the first season, but there was MASSIVE improvement over Season Two and on through Season Five. Until he was quite the studly man. ;)
