Tuesday | Summer Surprise + Photos to Prove It

I think the weather confused us with someone else, because it rained. Yes, people, it rained in the middle of the summer. Some of you are probably thinking "huh?" right now because you get rain pretty much any day all year long (pretty sure it rains every Monday in Michigan, just sayin'). But here in my corner of paradise? Yah, no, not so much. But it was wonderful and I loved it.

  1. Ahhh. I love, love, LOVE rain! :D The smell is so awesome and getting to read a book on a rainy summer afternoon is perfectly scrumptious. Unfortunately, we don't really get too much of it here either... a short period of quick afternoon showers sometime mid-summer and that's about it. Oh well, when God decides to send a little rain, I'll enjoy it. :D

    1. Me, too, Taylor!! Rain is one of my favorite things, I always look forward to the rainy season! There's just somethingabout it. Maybe it just appeals to my melancholy-lovin' soul. That part of me that agrees with Sally Sparrow's "dad is happy for deep people." Not that I'm claiming to be this massively deep well of intellect, haha. :)

Hope you get some rain soon! :)

  2. Aren't rain-bespeckled flowers just gorgeous to photograph? :)

We have had some odd weather this summer, too. Including a lot of hail one day that covered the median and ditches of the interstate. That's not very common 'round here. :)

    1. Yes, the weather in general has been strange lately, I've noticed that even over the past few years. But I love rain so I'm perfectly happy with a random and very unusual dousing of rain! Now hail would NOT be a good thing, since I live in ag-land. Hopefully it didn't do damage to any crops around where you are!

    2. I'm not so sure how many (if any) crops were affected, but the trees were pretty well cleaned of leaves, and quite a few houses were damaged. It also injured some cows that were outside.

    3. Yeesh! Sounds like it was pretty bad! Glad it wasn't worth, though!

  3. I've got some of that same rainy weather up here, girl! And I actually just took some photos of the rain on Sunday and was just going to write a post for it. Great minds think alike, eh? :)

    1. Yes, great minds do!! I wish I'd been able to catch some pictures of the actual rain but of course it didn't really rain (other than very light "mist") when I went out to take photos!

Looking forward to seeing your photos! :)

  6. Love the smell of rain after it hasn't rained in a long time... but we barely get that smell here because it rains alllll the time. :(

  7. Always have loved a nice, gentle Summer rain (just so long as it doesn't rain day after day) - it encourages me to laze around reading a good book. That's always a plus. ;)

    Lovely photos, Kellie!

  8. Hi Kellie!! :) okay, these pictures are lovely. did you use any program to edit them...?! and yes, I'm one of those pretty used to rain during summer (I live in Florida... haha) just last night we had a pretty bad storm down here, even some tornados and everything. thank goodness nothing too bad :) I reeeeally love the last picture of the flower... I'm a huge fan of flowers (and taking picture of them too!) and that one is just perfect <33 God is beautiful! :) and thank you soo much too for your comment on my blog (and reply on my comment too)! and I'm glad you liked my blog, I'm already loving yours too. you changed the layout from the last time I was here right?! haha I love this one too! and yeah I also love meeting new people through blogging and becoming friends with them. 1. Thanks, Gabi!! That rose was just at the perfect stage of blooming for a photo!

Yes, I do use editing software. I use Lightroom 4, which is a pro-editing software, even though I'm FAR from anywhere NEAR a pro-photographer. It's just a fabulous program to use. When I don't have access to that (ie. when I'm away from my laptop for some reason), I'll use picmonkey.com. I also use picmonkey to make all my blog designs. Prior to getting LR4, I used Google's free program called Picasa, which you can download from their website.

I sort of wish that we got more rain around here! I love rain, but it's definitely season here. :)

Have a lovely day, thanks for the comment and the new friendship. :)

  9. These photos are beautiful! Especially that lovely pink rose.

Typically I love a good rainy day, but we've been getting so much of that lately I'd gladly send you some;) Still, it does make everything outside look and smell delicious and it helps keep the pastures green, which is a blessing. :)

  10. I love rainy days! We're actually in the midst of a thunderstorm right now...I prefer *quiet* rainy days but this storm will provide much needed water to the gardens.
Gorgeous pics, my friend--my favorites were the roses. <3

    1. Ooh, a thunderstorm? We don't actually get very many good old-fashioned thunderstorms around here, even when it is our rainy season. Which is sad, since I love thunderstorms. :)

  12. Hey Kellie! Yes, it's been gray a lot over here where I'm at (in the Bay Area)... I saw your post on SF... are you in Northern California? And the Michigan thing... do you have connections to Michigan, too? (I ask because that's normally where I reside...) :) Pretty photos!
