Monday | Camping: Five Days Without a Shower

Yes, that's right - five whole living-in-the-dirt-and-dust days without a shower...and loving it! Well, not the going showerless part, but the camping itself. And friends, when we camp..we really camp. No campers or trailers for us, just a big tent (or two), cooking over the fire and whatever bare minimal bathroom facilities there happens to be. I am no stranger to the porta-potty.

For some in my family, five days in the great outdoors meant long fishing expeditions on the lake and lots of hiking, but for me, it's curling up with a book (or five) and just relaxing the days away. So that's exactly what I did.

Most photo credits to my mom, with the exception of the sunset shots towards the end.

{my new favorite series! If you're an HP or Redwall fan, it's a must! Thanks to my cousin Katie for recommending it! Fly you high! *grin* }
{ note to self: clean lens }

It was a great five days and whereas I was glad to get home and get cleaned up, I already miss that serenity of the mountains and the bigness of it all. Thanks, family, for being part of the herd with me!  :)

P.S. And I wasn't kidding about reading five books, either. :)

    1. It was a gorgeous campsite to read in, Rissi! I especially loved it when it started raining while I was curled up under a wool blanket in the tent. Pure bliss. :)

    1. The Underland Chronicles are so worth reading! Even though their titled as "childrens" books, I was thoroughly hooked on them! Such a great authoress, Suzanne Collins is!

  5. That trip looks so relaxing. I am totally spoiled and cannot handle not showering (more like my skin and hair can't), but the time outdoors with family? I'm all in with that. :)

    And those sunset photos? GORGEOUS. I am especially a fan of the one with the flowers(?) in the foreground. Lovely photos, my friend! I'm glad you got to take a relaxing trip with your family!

    1. Thank you! You know the compliments of a fellow photography go a long way!

      Ah, no camping for you?? That's so sad. I do confess that I was really feeling desperate for a shower there towards the end, but thankfully at least my hair is such that I can actually go several days without washing it and it doesn't get gross. If it wasn't such, though...yik. ;)

  6. Looks like your trip was wonderful! A great opportunity to rest and re-charge. I've never heard of that Suzanne Collins book series. Even though my to-read book list is a mile long, I will have to check those out. :)

  8. Sounds like fun, Kellie! Five whole days with nothing to do but hang out with the fam and read... it doesn't get much better than that. :D

    I read The Underland Chronicles earlier this year and thought that they were great too! I was babysitting for some people at our church (and snooping through their books... as bibliophiles are wont to do *guilty face*) when I noticed them on their shelf. I got all excited when I saw that they were written by Suzanne Collins (because for some crazy reason I had never checked to see if she had written anything other than The Hunger Games trilogy), and was graciously given the privilege of borrowing them. I enjoyed them so much that I really need to buy my own set. :)

    1. Haha, same here, sister-woman, same here! The Hunger Games literally kidnapped me body, soul and mind, I was that drawn into the story, and I instantly recognized a phenomenal author, yet never even thought to see if she'd written anything else! What's up with that? Usually when I find a good series, I'll read everything I can get my hands on by that same author!

      Glad at least we discovered them in the end! Fly you high. ;)

    Woohoo for having that much reading time, that's one of the big things that bums me out about having a full time job, I don't have nearly enough reading time! =P

    1. That's one thing I'm thankful for with my job - a 45 minute lunch break and a longer afternoon, due to often going into work extra early. :)

  11. Oh my word, that Doctor Who shirt you're wearing in a couple of the pics...I'm wearing the EXACT same one RIGHT NOW while reading this. Craziness!

    Looks like you guys had a blast! You're such a sweet family. ^_^
