Tuesday ~ The Day I Ate a Bag of White Powdered Donuts

Let me tell you about my week:

Studied paint swatches until I was blue in the face. Literally. All my "gray" paints kept turning blue on the wall.
Made multiple trips back and forth from home to the new house.
Decorated, prepped and primped for the barn dance.

 { my new camera lens mug (aka the coolest mug ever!) // dance prep }

Danced the night away and didn't get to bed until well after midnight. There was no glass slipper involved.
Got in bed but then had to chase down a hairy spider that had fallen from the wall and behind/on/into my bed.
Woke up so sore I could literally barely move.

{ a few quick shots of the magical evening }

Spent 6+ hours with two amazing brothers painting my room what finally became the perfect gray.
Rushed madly home and went to a hang-out night with my peeps. Covered in gray paint.
Went to church and groaned every time we had to stand because I was so sore and tired.
Spend all afternoon walking around Ikea. I did get my bookcase and a piece of chocolate cake out of it.
Spent a fun evening around the fire pit with my family bundled up against the wind. Bittersweet time, as it was my "going away" party.
Spent the rest of the evening packing up my entire life into boxes.
Got in bed and cried myself to sleep because it was my last night to sleep in my bed, in my home, with my family.
Went bed shopping with Dad and couldn't find any. Hence, one more night in my own bed, in my own home, with my family.
Had four new tires put on my car, went shopping for staple household supplies (who knew laundry soap was so expensive, huh?), picked up my bookcase from my soon-to-be-house.
Spent the evening painting it.

That's been my week.

This morning so far?

Woke up without nearly enough sleep.
Almost got in a wreck on the freeway.
Got to watch two cars have a honking/finger-flipping war over who was actually responsible for the near accident.
Ate almost half a bag of white powdered donuts because it seemed like the best idea at the time.
Got honked at by a van of prison inmates.
Not sure if that was a compliment or not.

To my lovely blog friends, wonderful family and the quiet blog stalkers who read this blog...
Have a lovely day filled with adventures.

Even if that adventure is simply a bag of white powdered donuts and wearing flip-flops under your office desk where no one can see.

  1. The public demands more than one picture of the barn dance.

    1. Have no fear...the plan is to definitely post more after I move tonight, settle in and find a few minutes of "normal" again! Consider this just at teaser! ;)

  2. So... Remember how I said we were so alike?

Guess what I've had taped to my wall for, like, two weeks now?

    Gray paint swatches! :)

(What color did you end up going with?)

    1. Well, gray is the new "brown," right? :D Taleia, that's crazy! It must be a spring thing right now to want to redo our rooms...or in my case, do it for the first time! I ended up using a different swatch than the ones shown above - I chose Ben Moore's "Stonington Gray." It still has almost a faint hint of blue in some lights, but overall, it's a gorgeous pale, cheerful gray! I'm in love with it! :)

  3. Great "update" post, Kellie. Thanks for giving us a peek into your new adventures. :)

Picking the "right" paint color can be hard. I just went through that myself - chose a "gray" shade. I know some think that may sound dreary but I love the result and that's what counts, right!? :) Which one did you chose?

    Happy Tuesday!

    1. Isn't gray the prettiest color? I know it's coming "in" right now, but I'm okay with that, gray is one of my favorite colors! And I don't think gray walls are drab at all, I think it's especially happy and cheery! Plus you can add so many different accent colors, since it'll go with almost anything!

My room color scheme is going to be gray, tan and dusty blue. With some white accents, like the wall trim and my lace under-curtains. But as in any decorating, it's going to be a work in progress for a long time! :) I chose Ben Moore's "Stonington Gray," it still has a few faint hints of blue in certain lights, but overall, it's a gorgeous light gray! I'm SO happy with it! I know that gray is such a hard color to get right (goes blue or purple so fast!) but thanks to a lot of Pinteresting, I think I got my dream color! What gray did you choose??

    2. Mine was called "Nantucket Mist." Right now the plan is to use tones of "rich" purple with it (throw pillows, décor, etc.) and a back sham - it looks nice. I also have a secondary blanket that is in shades of gray and yellow, so when I want to switch things up, I'll go with that theme. Yellow is definitely a "cheery" color. :)

Agree with you - gray is very versatile and I wanted something that you could change your décor without having to re-paint the walls. What you chose sounds great! Whatever, the most important thing is that YOU are happy with it. :)

  4. What.a.week. you have had! I've been waiting for the dance pictures! Somehow they are less magical if you aren't there to experience it. So have you finally spent a night in your new house? I hope this week of yours is a little more calming than last! At least you probably won't have another vanful of inmates honking at you...

    1. I missed you so much at the dance, Michelle!! It was SO amazing! There will be more dance pictures once I have time to get settled into my new house and actually give my full attention to picture editing.

Tonight should be my first night at my new house!! Excited, scared, heartbroken and just plain READY are some of the emotions going through my head right now! After work and after my brothers get home from their respective work places, I hope to load my life up into our van and take it over! :) I asked Katheryn to spend my first night with me...you know, to cushion the blow of being gone. :) But I hear you're coming over on Fri? I'll certainly be coming home to hang out! I'm sure there's LOTS to talk about. ;)

Sounds like you had one crazy week. I'm anxious to see more pictures from the Spring Dance, the one you posted are so tantalizing!

    1. Hehe, I checked your blog this morning just to see if you'd posted any pictures of it!! I have to get LR installed on my laptop in the next few days and all the dances photos onto my external hard drive so that I can work on editing them and getting them up here!

Yay for gray! I'm excited about wall my decorating options! By the way, I think of you every time I see some kind of map/travel themed decorating item! :)

  10. Wow, Kellie, you certainly have had quite the week! Love, love, love the grey! One of my friends did her apartment in grey and found some adorable grey/black/white curtains at Ikea...it was so adorable! I'm planning to use lots of grey in my own apartment someday. I felt like you when I had to move out for college, including crying myself to sleep. Family is such an amazing blessing, but it is so hard to fly the coop when it's time.

    1. Ikea is amazing! I actually only went for the first time about two weeks ago, when my Housies (my cross version of "housemates" and "roomies") and I first began getting the house ready for living in! I bought my white under curtains there, as well as my bookcase. I looked for outer curtains, but didn't see any that I liked in my color schemes.

Leaving home....was....and is....so hard!! It's not even been 24 hours yet and I miss it so tremendously! But I'm going home this evening to gather stuff/hang out, so it'll barely seem like I was even gone. ;)

  11. Firstly, love that mug! I was looking at that picture for the longest time trying to to decide whether it was actually a mug or if that spoon resting in it was just there for some reason. Then I had the bright idea to scroll further down and see if you mentioned it. Look! You totally did! :)

Ah, the joys of picking paint colors. I'd like to know who decides how many shades of each color they should provide. Seems like they'd soon run out. Picking out wallpaper is just as hard, let me tell you! Took me ages to find the right one for my old bedroom at home. And now I can't even enjoy it, since I no longer live there. Crazyness. But still fun! :)

The pics of the dance are magical themselves! Simply lovely. Have I mentioned that I think you're a great photographer? Because you are. :) And it looks like y'all had a wonderful evening. Glad you were able to get everything done.

Feeling settled in a little bit by now? Hope so. But moving stuff and changing stuff is hard, and definitely takes time to adjust to. Hope the rest of your week is splendid! And full of wonderful things. :)

    1. Haha! That's too funny, Kara! I'm continually amazed at how exact that mug is to an actual lens, despite where the "Canon" logo would be, it actually says "Caniam." Don't know if that was a copyright thing or one of the "made in China" English translation things! :D

You got that right, gral! Just the overwhelming varieties of the color WHITE is astounding...I've always sorta looked at white as while...gray as gray...black as black...but whoever is the master of the paint industry definitely has an imagination! :D

Thank you for your compliment on my photography! That REALLY blessed me and encourages me to keep on going with my hobby! It's a lot of fun, although something I've come to realize about myself is that I just like photographing LIFE...and if in getting LIFE happening around me, if the picture isn't PERFECT and wall-worthy...that's okay with me. But...having it turn out awesome is also a huge perk. *wink wink*

Actually, yes! I am feeling more settled in! I went home last night to gather more stuff and just spend a normal evening at home, like I would have if I'd been living there. Ended up sitting on the floor of "our" room with my sisters, talking and laughing while I did my nails...which is pretty typical! I came home to "The House" feeling a lot more confident in my new position in life and in the family...nothing TOO great has really changed. Of course, time will tell...but for now, I'm thinking I'm going to adjust very well!
